EMPLOY Wood Sawing Operators set up and operate wood sawing equipment.

EMPLOY participants can perform some or all of these functions:

  • Select knives to achieve specified diameter of cut
  • Install bit and dado saw according to work ticket
  • Operate and tend saws and machines to cut stock
  • Operate panel board and conveyor system to cut stock to specified dimensions and move stock through process
  • Trim defects from stock or work piece to straighten rough edges of lumber
  • Observe approaching lumber on conveyor to determine cut that will produce highest grade
  • Determine sawing blade, type and grade of stock needed, and cutting procedures
  • Measure work piece to mark for cuts and verify accuracy of cuts using ruler, square, or caliper rule
  • Inspect stock for imperfections
  • Estimate grade or quality of stock or work piece
  • Unload and roll logs from truck to sawmill deck, carriage or pond using pike pole
  • Count, sort and stack finished work pieces and dispose of waste material
