| EMPLOY Upholsterers make, repair, or replace upholstery for household furniture or transportation vehicles.
EMPLOY participants can perform some or all of these functions:
- Examine upholstery to locate defects
- Design upholstery cover patterns
- Remove covering, webbing, padding, and defective springs
- Measure and cut new covering material
- Adjust or replace webbing, padding, and springs
- Sew rips or tears in material or create tufting
- Operate sewing machine to seam cushions and join various sections of covering material
- Refinish wood surfaces on upholstered or reupholstered furniture
- Drill or punch holes in material
- Fit, install, and secure material using hand tools, power tools, glue, cement, or staples
- Attach fasteners, grommets, buckles, ornamental trim, and other accessories to cover or frame
- Attach binding or apply solutions to edges of cut material to prevent raveling
