EMPLOY Hand Sewers sew, join, reinforce, or finish, usually with needle and thread, a variety of manufactured items, including weavers and stitchers.
EMPLOY participants can perform some or all of these functions:
- Draw and cut patterns according to specifications
- Select thread, twine, cord, or yarn and thread needles
- Wax thread
- Soften leather or shoe material
- Measure and align parts, fasteners, or trimmings, following seams, edges, or markings on parts
- Fold, twist, stretch, or drape material and secure article in preparation for sewing
- Tie, knit, weave or knot ribbon, yarn or decorative materials
- Attach trimmings and labels
- Sew using various types of stitches such as felling, tacking, basting, embroidery, and fagoting
- Trim excess threads or edges
- Smooth seam with heated iron, flat bone or rubbing stick
