EMPLOY Painters paint, coat, or decorate articles, such as furniture.
EMPLOY participants can perform some or all of these functions:
- Read job order and inspect work piece to determine work procedure and materials required
- Prepare and clean surfaces using methods such as scraping, sanding, sand-blasting, hydroblasting
and steam-cleaning
- Mix and thin paint to obtain desired color and texture
- Apply paint or other materials, such as stains, lacquer, enamel, oil, varnish, fiberglass, metal
coating or fire retardant using brushes, rollers or spray equipment
- Measure, cut and apply wallpaper or fabric to walls
- Assemble and erect scaffolding and swing gates
- Select and mix ingredients to prepare coating substance according to specifications
- Conceal blemishes in work piece, such as nicks and dents using filler
- Melt or heat coating material to specified temperature
- Immerse work piece into coating material for specified time
- Apply coating, such as paint, ink, or lacquer, to protect or decorate work piece surface, using
spray gum, pen, or brush
- Cut out sections in surface of material to be inlaid with decorative piece
- Rinse coated work piece to remove excess coating material or to facilitate setting of finish coat on work piece
- Place coated work piece in oven or dryer for specified time to dry or harden finish
- Position and glue decorative pieces in cutout section following pattern
- Examine finished surface of work piece to verify conformance to specifications and retouch
