Experience & Tasks
Operate various types of power-operated machine tools that are used to mass produce metal/plastic parts and tools
EMPLOY Machinists operate a variety of machine tools to cut or grind metal, plastic or other materials to make or modify parts or products to precise dimensions.

EMPLOY participants can perform some or all of these functions:

  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, charts/tables, or study sample parts to
    determine machining operation to be performed
  • Plan best sequence of operations
  • Compute dimensions/tolerances and measure/lay out work pieces
  • Set up, operate, and maintain a wide variety of machine tools including computer numerically
    controlled (CNC) tools to cut or grind metal/similar materials into parts or products with precise dimensions
  • Inspect machined parts/tooling to maintain quality control standards
  • Watch for problems in production process
  • May be able to repair parts on existing machinery
