EMPLOY Drywall Installers provide the skills to install plasterboard, wallboard or paneling to interior walls and ceilings of buildings, or apply joining tape between sheetrock boards.
EMPLOY participants can perform some or all of these functions:
- Read blueprints and other specifications to determine method of installation, work procedures, and material and tool requirements
- Lay out reference lines and points, compute position of framing and furring channels, and mark position
- Measure and mark cutting lines on framing, drywall, and trim, using tape measure, straightedge or square, and marking devices
- Trim rough edges from wallboard to maintain even joints
- Work with hand tools, portable power tools, or adhesive to fit and fasten wallboard or sheetrock into specified position
- Install blanket insulation between studs
- Tack plastic moisture barrier over insulation
- Remove plaster, drywall, or paneling
- Assemble and install metal framing and decorative trim for windows, doorways, and vents
- Suspend angle iron grid and channel iron from ceiling
- Install horizontal and vertical metal or wooden studs for attachment of wallboard on interior walls, using hand tools
- Cut metal or wood framing, angle and channel iron, and trim to size using cutting tools
- Cut openings into board for electrical outlets, windows, vents, or fixtures using keyhole saw or other cutting tools
