MINNCOR Industries was created in 1994 by the Minnesota Department of Corrections (DOC) to consolidate and centralize its individual facility programs into a single statewide business, as well as to increase efficiency and decrease reliance on the state’s general fund. MINNCOR exists for the primary purpose of providing offender job skills training, meaningful employment, and teaching proper work habits.
No state subsidies, taxpayer dollars or grants are used to fund MINNCOR Industries. Revenues generated through the sale of products and services pay all expenses.
For fiscal year 2009, $36.3 million in revenue was produced by more than 1,200 inmate
employees, in more than 18 business units, working with over 50 partners from
Minnesota's private and public sectors.
In addition to contributing to the state’s tax base, there are a host of ways the MINNCOR
program benefits state taxpayers. Click here to learn more.
The range of products MINNCOR produces is extensive. Some showcase pieces include docks and picnic tables for state parks; furniture and seating for offices; libraries and schools; custodial products; and all of the correctional facility furnishings.
MINNCOR’s work sites span 6 facilities across Minnesota, with over 50,000 square
feet of space available for manufacturing and subcontracting. An array of subcontracted services is performed through MINNCOR--printing, laundry and
sewing are just a few. Additionally, MINNCOR will adapt its production facilities, and
train workers, to meet your company's specific products and production needs. |
